China and Brazil Celebrate the 30th Anniversary of Earth Resources Satellite Program

On August 31, Brazil’s National Institute for Space Research held activities with relevant Chinese authorities to celebrate the 30th anniversary of China-Brazil Resources Satellite Program in the city of São José dos Campos of Sao Paulo State. People from all walks of life in two countries witnessed the relevant cooperative outcomes together through videos and pictures.

Mr. Li Guoping, director-general of system engineering department from the China National Space Administration (CNSA), expressed in his speech, “Brazil is one of the most distant countries for China, but thanks to the support of the governments on both sides and the dedication of space technological researchers, great achievements have been made in the cooperation of China-Brazil Earth Resources Satellite. It not only serves for the development of economy, society and aerospace industry, but also jointly cultivates a team of talents with friendship and solidarity.”

José Raimundo, the president of Brazilian Space Agency, pointed out, “China-brazil Earth Resources Satellite Program provides a platform for mutual learning, which not only has made an important contribution to the social development in Brazil, but also provided data services to many countries in Africa and Latin America. Brazil is willing to deepen cooperation with China in relevant field.”

Li Jinzhang, the ambassador of Chinese Embassy in Brazil, said, “As an important part of China-Brazil bilateral cooperation,Earth Resources Satellite Program has advanced the deep development of the relations of two countries and is representative of ‘South-South cooperation’. This enterprising spirit and sincere cooperation will write a new chapter for the future aerospace cooperation of two countries.”

In 1988, China and Brazil signed the Protocol Between the People’s Republic of China and The Federative Republic of Brazil on the Research of Earth Resources Satellite. The CBERS-01, CBERS-02, CBERS-02B and CBERS-04 jointly developed by both parties were launched successfully in 1999, 2003, 2007 and 2014 respectively. Currently, CBERS-04A, which is at the stage of assembly and integration, is expected to be launched in the second half year of 2019.
