Chief Designer of BeiDou System Yang Changfeng: BeiDou System Will Serve the Whole World by 2020
On September 5, Chief Designer of BeiDou System Yang Changfeng expressed in Mianyang, Sichuan that by the end of this year, BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (hereinafter referred to as BeiDou System) will take the lead in providing basic service to countries and regions along the Belt and Road, and that by 2020, BeiDou System will serve the whole world.
On the same day, the Seventh Annual Conference of China GNSS and LBS & China BeiDou Application Forum, co-hosted by GNSS & LBS Association of China and People’s Government of Mianyang, was held in Mianyang with the theme of “Further Implementing BeiDou Application and Promoting Industrial Development”.
BeiDou Navigation Satellite System is a self-developed and independently-operated global satellite navigation system under construction in China. Yang Changfeng said when delivering a speech at the conference: “the ultimate purpose of construction is application. Ten days ago, the 35th and 36th BeiDou satellites were successfully launched, and two weeks later, China will face the challenge of launching the 37th and 38th BeiDou satellites into the network.”
Yang Changfeng introduced that BeiDou industry has begun to take shape now, and the sales of BeiDou chips, modules and other core basic products with independent intellectual property rights in China have exceeded 70 million pieces; moreover, large-scale applications have been realized in transportation, meteorology, fisheries, agriculture and other industries, as well as in the field of mass consumption. BeiDou high-precision products have been exported to over 70 countries (regions).
When speaking of the domestic and overseas application and promotion of BeiDou System, Yang Changfeng believes that the technology integration of high-precision satellite navigation service with cloud computing, Internet of Things and big data should be deepened continuously, and the industrial integration of satellite navigation with high-end manufacturing, advanced software and comprehensive data industry should be promoted constantly, and innovation promotes the effective combination of BeiDou application promotion and solutions to the realistic problems of the national economy and people’s livelihood.
Yu Xiancheng, president of GNSS & LBS Association of China, believes that the implementation of BeiDou system is of vital importance. He said that with the continuous acceleration of global network formation of China BeiDou-3 satellites, the application of BeiDou system has become an economic growth point of strategic emerging industries, and an important part in the development of both intelligent information industry and high-tech promotion of modern information industrial cluster.
In the main forum of the conference, a number of academicians and renowned experts held in-depth discussions regarding topics such as BeiDou performance improvement, enhanced technology of space-earth integration, advantages of BeiDou navigation system service, innovative application of location service in urban brain intelligent transportation and so forth; the 2018 Satellite Navigation and Positioning Science and Technology Award, Innovation and Application Award and Lifetime Achievement Award were also presented.
