Xi’an Satellite Control Centre Conducted “Physical Examination” on 52 BDS Satellites

Customized and personalized “physical examination” forms, comprehensive analysis of satellite health status, and qualitatively drawing the change curve of satellite health status... On February 9, the reporter learned from Satellite Control Center that the center has conducted a “physical examination” on 52 BDS satellites in orbit one by one on the eve of the Spring Festival to ensure that BDS can operate smoothly and provide accurate services during the Spring Festival.

It is understood that this “physical examination” is the first comprehensive investigation on the operation status of BDS-2 and BDS-3 by the Center since the “final star” of BDS-3 entered the orbit on June 30, 2020. “Satellites are just like human beings. They need to regularly undergo physical examinations for early detection, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of ‘minor illnesses and pains’.” On February 9, Lv Pengliang, engineer of the division for long-term management of spacecraft at the center, said: “Only by keeping the satellite in good working condition at all times can we better serve our daily lives.”

It is reported that BDS has been widely used in areas such as transportation, agriculture, forestry and fishery, hydrological monitoring, weather forecasting, power dispatching, disaster relief and mitigation, and public safety since it was opened for services more than half a year ago and has produced significant economic and social benefits. As a control and management center for BDS satellites, the Xi’an Satellite Control Center has accurate knowledge about the real-time operational status of the BDS satellites in orbit and provides strong guarantees on the measurement and control for the precise and stable operation of the BDS in orbit.
