China Accelerates the Integration of BDS with New Technologies

Auto-driving aided by high-precision maps, oil pipeline network under intelligent real-time monitoring and maintenance, and a “digital earth” highly consistent with the real earth... All of them are results by integrating BDS with new technologies. “BDS+” and “+BDS” are becoming a new model and new tendency of technology in China’s satellite navigation industry.

Ran Chengqi, director of the China Satellite Navigation Office, expressed at the 12th China Satellite Navigation Conference in Nanchang that the BDS industry has been included in the national 14th Five-Year Plan and the Long-Range Objectives Through the Year 2035 in this year, which happens to be the first year for the implementation of the 14th Five-Year Plan. China’s satellite navigation industry has stepped into a new era and a new stage, and is embracing new opportunities.

As an important part of China’s new infrastructure construction, BDS not only facilitates the integrated applications of communications, navigation and remote sensing technologies, but also provides strategic and basic spatio-temporal data support for other new types of infrastructure in the future.

Only by accelerating integrated applications can a development at multiplied rate be accomplished. Thanks to the integration of the superior functions of BDS and cutting-edge technologies of strategic significance such as the Internet of Things, unmanned driving, AI, 5G and block chain, “BDS+” and “+BDS” have become important means of forging systematically safe and reliable modern infrastructure systems featured with highly pragmatic efficiency and intelligent and green technologies.

“The applications of BDS are only subject to imagination,” said Yang Changfeng, chief designer of BDS. The potential of BDS will be explored with continued efforts to bring about more technological innovations in the form of “BDS+” and “+BDS” and drive an increasing number of new forms of business and new industries.
