Total Value of China’s BDS Industry to Reach One Trillion Yuan by 2025

“It is estimated that the total value of China’s BDS sector will reach one trillion yuan by 2025.” Yang Jun, deputy director of the China Satellite Navigation Office, said at the 12th China Satellite Navigation Conference held in Nanchang, Jiangxi province on the 26th, that the overall output of China’s satellite navigation sector exceeded 400 billion yuan in 2020, with an average annual growth rate of more than 20%.

Currently, China has created a complete and independently controlled BDS industry chain, with the cost performance of key and basic products such as chips, modules, and plates comparable to those of similar international products. BDS related products have been exported to more than 120 countries and regions, providing services to hundreds of millions of users.

It is reported that the sales volume of BDS compatible chips and modules made in China has reached 100 million pieces and the total number of terminals in use with the BDS positioning function has exceeded one billion units. The first smartphone made in China that supports BDS high-precision positioning has been released, which can receive BDS ground-based augmentation service signals and realize positioning in an accuracy measured in meters.

Since the BDS-3 global satellite navigation system was officially put into use, BDS has been seen in many areas such as transportation, agriculture, forestry and fishery. Up to now, the BDS has been applied to more than seven million road transport vehicles, 36.3 thousand vehicles for postal and express delivery, about 1.4 thousand public-service ships, and about 350 general-purpose aircraft in China. Empowered by the BDS, there are over 45 thousand automatic driving systems for agricultural machinery and over 400 thousand equipment connected to platforms for monitoring agricultural machinery operations and IoT platforms, saving 50% of labor costs.
