China Successfully launched ZY 3-02 Satellite Two Uruguayan NewSat Minisatellites

At 11:17 on 30th of May, China successfully launched satellite ZY 3-02 along with two Uruguayan NewSat satellites by Long March 4B carrier rocket. All three satellites have entered the preset orbits.

The ZY 3-02 is a new civilian high-resolution mapping satellite, whose main mission is to obtain high resolution stereoscopic images and multi-spectral images. It will be  used for land resource surveys, natural disaster prevention, agricultural development, water resource management, ecological and environment protection, urban planning and major national projects among others applications. The ZY 3-01 satellite, launched on January 9, 2012 has reaches a good result in application. The newly launched ZY 3-02 is a successor of ZY 3-01. It was being developed since June 2012 and had completed its manufacture and system integration testing process in February 2015. After being launched, ZY 3-02 will join its predecessor and effectively complement one another. It has the ability to continuously, stably and swiftly capture high-definition 3-D images and multispectral data.

The newly launched satellite and its carrier rocker are developed respectively by the China Academy of Space Technology (CAST) and Shanghai Academy of Spaceflight Technology, both of which belong to the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation. The State Bureau of Surveying and Mapping is in charge of system development and management. NewSat minisatellites’s launching servise was coordinated by China Great Wall Corporation.

It was the 228th flight mission by a Long March carrier rocket.
