Guang Xi: Creating Intelligent Waterway Shipping Based on BeiDou Technology
As of January 22nd, 2018, about 454 shipping vessels in the Xijiang river basin of Guangxi Province had installed BeiDou intelligent terminals, and had achieved a total of 14,218 intelligent overboard by “ETC” (automatic payment without stoppages), achieving good social benefits.
The BeiDou intelligent terminal on shipping vessels is a representative product which demonstrates Guangxi enterprises actively responding to the BeiDou national strategy according to actual development. It demonstrates Guangxi enterprises vigorously researching and promoting BeiDou technology in the application of inland shipping.
In order to meet the needs of traditional business innovations such as inland river navigation locks and logistics in Xijiang, Guangxi enterprises have carried out research on BeiDou related technologies and policies since 2013. research and innovation on BeiDou applications were conducted and applied to Guangxi Science and Technology Department, Communications Department, and Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. The party committee applied 10 BeiDou-related scientific research projects and obtained grant funds of more than 6 million yuan. Based on the results of scientific research, Chinese enterprise successfully developed “Shipping Vessel Network with BeiDou Smart Terminal and its Application Service System” with independent intellectual property rights, obtaining three utility model patents and 8 software copyrights. This helped Chinese enterprise which developed this system to win one second prize of Guangxi Science and Technology Progress Award, two third prizes of Guangxi Science and Technology Progress Award and one third prize of Satellite Navigation Science and Technology Award from China Satellite Navigation and Positioning Association.
At present, the applications of BeiDou technology by Guangxi enterprises in the inland shipping industry are at the forefront of the country, and relevant application achievements have been recognized by this industry. They have successively become the implementation units for “Guangxi BeiDou Comprehensive Application Demonstration Project” of Guangxi municipality and “Regulatory Demonstration Project Based on BeiDou-Based Inland River Navigation and Transportation Services” by Ministry of Communications. In November 2017, “Guangxi Shipping Network Engineering Research Center” was reported by Guangxi enterprises and was approved by the Guangxi Science and Technology Department. It achieved a breakthrough in the BeiDou application and achieved zero breakthroughs in the regional innovation platform of Guangxi enterprises, indicating Guangxi BeiDou Science and Technology Innovation stepping to a new level. This research center is committed to the research of shipping network data processing, information security monitoring, waterway transportation logistics GIS, intelligent assistant driving for shipping vessels, intelligent integration system for new model of shipping vessel, intelligent container control and other technologies. In addition, this center further deepens the research and development of ship terminal hardware products, producing a batch of application solutions for shipping network that have achieved remarkable results.
